St Peter's was very fortunate in getting the choir which came close to winning national honours as one of 15 finalists in the BBC TV 'Last Choir Standing' competition, which had a total of 900 nominated choirs at the start. St Peter's was packed for the occasion which raised over £800 for church funds.

At the Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin May on 16th August 2009 we had the opportunity to see Our Lady's statue in a different location from the usual place in her chapel with votive candles lit in front of her and the requests for intercession by her side. She was gently borne aloft by two members of the Serving Team and carried to a temporary location in the Sanctuary.
This picture of Our Lady in her temporary location in the Sanctuary was taken by, Tom Smith. It gives us the opportunity to see the statue from a different aspect, bringing out its rich colours and the affectionate relationship between Our Lady and the infant Jesus.

Tom Smith - The West Window of St Peter's
The Victoria County History of Wiltshire says of St Peter's:
'The glass in the west window, said to be one of the best examples of modern
stained glass in Wiltshire, was inserted in 1934 in memory of the Dowdings.' The window commemorates our founder Rev Benjamin Dowding, Vicar
of St James, his wife Maria and their children.
The centre window depicts Jesus robed in majesty and crowned as
King of Glory. At the top of the window is a hand coming out of a cloud
and representing God the Father; below that is a dove representing the Holy
Spirit. Behind the dove is the emerald rainbow - 'and there was a
rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald' Rev. 4:3.
Jesus is holding in his left hand an open book showing the first
and last capital letters of the Greek alphabet - alpha ( Α ) and omega ( Ω ).
'He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and
the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring
of the water of life."' Rev 21:6.
Below Jesus is a scroll with the words "Holy, Holy, Holy".
to be found in Rev 4:8 'Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy,
holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come"'.
Below the scroll is the Lamb on the altar and on the altar
is the book with the seven seals with four streams of water flowing from beneath
it 'Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll
with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals.'
Rev 5:1.
The left hand window shows the Archangel Michael with his emblem of the sword and shield, and underneath the words from Rev. 21:7, 'He that overcometh shall inherit all things, and I will be his God.'
In the right hand window the Archangel Gabriel is shown with his
emblem of the lily and underneath the words from Rev. 22:5, 'The Lord God
giveth them light, and they shall reign for ever and ever.'
The Mass was celebrated by Fr Peter Clarke, our Area Dean in the Forward in Faith College of Deans. Pictures below show the wreath laying ceremony which took place at the War Memorial in front of our church. The memorial stands 16 feet high and was designed in 1920 by the distinguished church architect, Sir Ninian Comper. It was originally dedicated to the memory of the 44 men of the parish who gave their lives in the First World War; later inscriptions were added for those who died in the Second World War.
